Working within an effective legal, financial and governance framework is increasingly important for charities and non-profit organisations in assuring umbrella bodies, local and central Government bodies, and stakeholders that organisations comply with relevant laws and regulations. Maintaining and improving quality is a crucial element of such frameworks, and in managing their quality management system (QMS), Edinburgh-based Scottish Business in the Community (SBC) has chosen a software solution from award-winning Scottish developers Gael Ltd. As a not-for-profit organisation which helps companies to make their impact on society as positive and sustainable as possible, SBC aims to support, broker and challenge businesses to continually improve their positive impact on society to ensure a successful, sustainable economy. For SBC, Q-Pulse offered an effective framework in which to manage the business and enhance the credibility of their management systems, as well as demonstrate compliance with laws and regulations to certification bodies, regulatory authorities and stakeholders. ‘As a charity it’s important that we’re fully transparent, and implementing an ISO 9000-based QMS provides a good basis for control and improvement,’ says Malcolm Thomson, SBC’s Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Operations. ‘It also ensures that any issues raised either externally or internally are logged and acted upon, and that we can analyse issues to implement process improvements.’ ‘In addition, although we’re a charity, our membership is made up of key Scottish businesses which are committed to the promotion of responsible business practice, and it’s important that we operate in the way our members do; implementing a QMS – particularly using a tool like Q-Pulse – will help give our management systems credibility.’ Q-Pulse can help charities and not-for-profit organisations to put in place a framework that enables regulatory and legal compliance, from controlling documentation and planning audits, to identifying non-conformances and implementing opportunities for improvement. ‘Good document management is key in the successful delivery and measurement of our programmes, as well as in providing a clear structure for information relating to our membership businesses,’ says Malcolm. ‘Document control is a very strong feature of Q-Pulse: I’ve used Q-Pulse in many companies where I’ve developed ISO QMS and document control has always been my starting point. ‘I’m also keen for our staff to be able to access Q-Pulse from wherever they operate across Scotland through its secure web interface. Q-Pulse will then be a central resource for SBC where staff will automatically use it to store and find data, which will in turn provide the knowledge base to help drive the organisation forward.’ For further information please contact: |
