Restoring MindGenius files from the .YBAK file

The backup file .YBAK is created when the user loads a new map .YMAP file and then saves it. Initially, the .YBAK is created as an exact copy of the .YMAP. When the map is reopened and saved, the original .YMAP file is copied and saved as .YBAK and the original .YMAP is overwritten. Therefore the .YBAK file is one save behind the .YMAP.

The .YBAK file is not intended as a substitute for regular backups of the PC's data, but is intended to provide a backup copy in the event that a file becomes corrupt; the user can then revert to a previous copy of the file without reverting to a full backup of data. It is possible that if a power-cut has occurred during the Saving of the .YMAP, the .YBAK file may also have become corrupted, as the two files are saved concurrently.

Within MindGenius there is the option to Auto Save after a user-specified time period and this function can be enabled through Tools>Options>General. This will ensure that the file is saved on a regular basis whilst working and minimise the difference between the .YMAP and .YBAK files.
