Using the "Send to" Option in MindGenius, Recipient of e-mail receives the Ymap as a read only attachment

This appears to be an anomaly in the operation of MS Outlook for any received file attachment.

In MS Outlook 97/98/2000 there are several ways of opening an attachment:

  1. The attachment icon may appear in the body of the email in the preview pane, this can be opened by double clicking on the icon.

    OR

  2. On the status bar of the preview pane a small paperclip icon can be selected to open the attachment.

    OR

  3. Open the email and the attachment will be displayed in the email itself which can be double clicked to open.

Using Methods 1 and 2 (open the attachment from the preview pane or using the paperclip icon on the status bar) the attachments - MindGenius documents or any MS office documents - will automatically be set to read only by Microsoft Outlook. This would appear to be a bug in earlier versions of the Outlook package.

To open an attachment without a read only status enforced to the file, follow method 3.

NB This bug within Office/Outlook appears to have now been resolved in the latest release of Microsoft Office XP which uses Outlook 2002.
